About

I come from a large family in Devon who all love to cook and eat far too much. A lot of my fondest memories are from around the table at home or eating out, whether it was at home or on frequent holidays to France and Italy. Even now after we've all moved out, when we do meet up at home, most of our time is spent around the table. We are a particularly greedy bunch. I spent a lot of time as child cooking with my mother, then, when going off to university, cooking was put on the back burner, mainly because the kitchen in our accommodation was such a tip and almost unusable like most student accommodation.

In february 2010 after university, myself and three other friends moved to a house in Brixton, London. It was a great house and a welcome change from living in a small, shoo box apartment above a busy road in Fulham. The real gem however with this house was not just that it had a great kitchen, it had a large garden, and it was the garden that really got me inspired to be creative in the kitchen again. within a month of moving in, I had planted several rows of potatoes, loads of herbs, peas and a bedroom window sill full of tomato plants ready for planting out in the summer. My bedroom literally became a green house. It's a wonderful treat being able to cook and eat your own veg and it's something I would most certainly recommend to any one with a small garden. And so I started writing this blog.

In April of 2011 I'd had just about enough or working in IT support (a job I fell into out of University),  spending everyday trying to tell people over the phone where to find the on button of their computer, or "you wont be able to print if you dont put paper in the printer" and so on. So with the help of my extremely generous grandparents, I made the decision to go to Tante Marie culinary school and train as a chef for 9 months. After various stints of work experience in a handfull of London restaurants, I now have a full time job as chef at 'Chez Bruce' in Wandsworth . I have a separate blog on my experience at Tant Marie: 'yes chef no chef'.

Last year, my girlfriend and I were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to buy a small flat. We spent 4 months renovating it during our spare time, after work in the evenings and on the weekends, it was a tough and exhausting job, but well worth it, we now have our own garden and a great kitchen.
I love creating recipes and cooking for other people, the kitchen is where I feel at home and happiest, even after a long week at work, the kitchen is where I can wind down and relax. So, not surprisingly on this blog you'l find recipes and other bits and bobs regarding all things food. I hope you enjoy it.
